Frequently asked
Why $29? It seems cheap for industry data.
FisheryData is institutional intelligence priced for owner-operators, not for hedge funds. The value-per-dollar comes from time saved (we read CFEC and the Federal Register so you don't have to) and from the searchable database that lives behind the paywall. The first 50 founding members get $19/mo; once we hit 50 paid the standard $29 rate kicks in.
Is the data accurate?
We synthesize primary public records — CFEC's permit-value master CSV, the U.S. Federal Register's Fisheries documents, CFEC's intents pipeline. We don't reformat values; we publish what the agencies publish. Permit transfer prices for Alaska are NOT public — we don't invent them, and we say so plainly. For everything else, attribution and source URLs are included.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your Stripe billing portal in two clicks. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period — you keep paid features until then. We don't make you call or email to cancel.
Do you cover non-Alaska fisheries?
Today: Alaska CFEC + U.S. Federal Register (which covers federal fisheries actions nationally). Other state agencies are coming as we hit subscriber thresholds — Maine DMR, Florida FWC, Washington WDFW, Oregon ODFW, California CDFW are next. The federal layer (NOAA, regional councils) is national from day one.
How do I know I can trust the editorial?
Three things: (1) We never invent numbers — every claim traces to an agency we name and link. (2) An industry SME advisor reviews monthly deep-dives. (3) We retract publicly if we get something wrong; the issue archive shows the correction.
What if I sign up free, then want to upgrade later?
Use the same email at Stripe checkout. Your Beehiiv subscription stays in place; we just flip the tier. No double-subscribing, no merging accounts.
A note on prices
Alaska's CFEC does not publish individual permit transfer prices. We surface CFEC's time-weighted estimated permit value instead — computed from confidential transactions, expressed in 2026 dollars. For pricing a permit, timing a deal, or monitoring a fishery, the time-weighted estimate plus the intent-to-transfer pipeline is more useful than after-the-fact transaction prices would be.
