Frequently asked

Why $249/mo?
FisheryData is professional intelligence, not a consumer newsletter. It replaces hours of weekly digging through CFEC filings and the Federal Register and puts a searchable permit database, custom alerts, and CSV exports behind one login. It's built for the people whose decisions move real money — permit brokers, fishery consultants, maritime lenders, and quota investors — where a single well-timed data point pays for a year of the subscription many times over.
Is the data accurate?
We synthesize primary public records — CFEC's permit-value master CSV, the U.S. Federal Register's Fisheries documents, CFEC's intents pipeline. We don't reformat values; we publish what the agencies publish. Permit transfer prices for Alaska are NOT public — we don't invent them, and we say so plainly. For everything else, attribution and source URLs are included.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel from your /account page in two clicks — no Stripe-portal redirect, no email-us-to-cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you've paid for; you keep premium access until then.
Do you cover non-Alaska fisheries?
Today: Alaska CFEC + U.S. Federal Register (which covers federal fisheries actions nationally). Other state agencies are coming as we hit subscriber thresholds — Maine DMR, Florida FWC, Washington WDFW, Oregon ODFW, California CDFW are next. The federal layer (NOAA, regional councils) is national from day one.
How do I know I can trust the editorial?
Three things: (1) We never invent numbers — every claim traces to an agency we name and link. (2) An industry SME advisor reviews monthly deep-dives. (3) We retract publicly if we get something wrong; the issue archive shows the correction.
What if I sign up free, then want to upgrade later?
Click 'Upgrade to Premium' at the bottom of any free issue, or visit /pricing and start Premium. We use the same email so your subscription record carries over — and we automatically move you out of the free list so you only get one issue per Tuesday.
A note on prices
Alaska's CFEC does not publish individual permit transfer prices. We surface CFEC's time-weighted estimated permit value instead — computed from confidential transactions, expressed in 2026 dollars. For pricing a permit, timing a deal, or monitoring a fishery, the time-weighted estimate plus the intent-to-transfer pipeline is more useful than after-the-fact transaction prices would be.
